Buckeye Gym Star Classes:

Rolling Stars:
This is the beginning level at Buckeye Gymnastics. The recommended age is six years old (in first grade) and above. The gymnasts will learn such basic skills as: cartwheel on the floor, pullover on the bars, vaulting approach and drills, and also the appropriate safety rules for each event. Boys will learn basics on p-bars, pommel horse and rings. They will also receive instruction on the trampoline and tumble trampoline.

Future Stars:
Students advance to Future Stars when all the basic skills for Rolling Stars are mastered. Basic skills taught in this class are backbend kick-over on the floor, back-hip circle on the bars, handstand flat-back on vault (onto mats). Safety rules will continue to be stressed at this level.

Rising Stars:
This class is for gymnasts who have progressed beyond the beginner level. More time is allotted per event at this level, as students begin to learn more advanced skills on each event. Handsprings are introduced at this level. There is also more emphasis on strength and flexibility. Safety rules are continually stressed at every level.

Gym Stars:
This is our most advanced class level at Buckeye. Gymnasts (both boys & girls) will focus on more difficult skills on all apparatus. This class will prepare gymnasts for competitive gymnastics, train them to become stronger athletes, or just allow them to enjoy the challenge of gymnastics.

T-N-T Trampoline and Tumbling:
T-N-T is our tumbling and trampoline class that is available for students with specific interests in tumbling from basic cartwheels to more advanced skills. Our trampoline classes are conducted entirely on the trampoline and tumble trampoline. This class is fun for kids at every level. Safety rules are covered thoroughly when taking these classes. Students can advance from level 1 to level 3. Those who love this sport can join the Flyers, our competitive trampoline and tumbling team.

Scarlet & Gray Team:
The Scarlet (Powell) and Gray (Westerville) Teams are non-select competition teams. All girls who have passed the Rising Star level and can demonstrate mastery of the skills at that level are eligible. S&G Team members register every 8 weeks just as they would for any other class. You commit to one eight week session at a time.

Scarlet & Gray Training:
The girls train once or twice a week for 2 hours each workout. During each practice the girls will work on learning skills, developing routines, and improving strength and flexibility. The routines the girls learn and compete were developed by USA Gymnastics. Our teams will compete at levels 3-5 or even higher as they progress. The girls will compete on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor.

Scarlet & Gray Competition:
The S&G Team will compete 5-7 times a year with most if not all of the competitions held in Central Ohio. The girls are not required to compete. Nor are they required to compete on every event. But if they do decide to take part in a competition they must be currently enrolled in the gym and current with all fees and tuition. Competition begins in the fall and will continue through spring. We begin with inner-squad competitions and progress to out of house competitions. We compete with other gyms that offer this type of program in the Central Ohio area in a League format with a culminating League Championship meet.

The S&G Team is offered as an alternative to our traditional competitive team program. The focus on the S&G program is on fun. However, we will always keep in mind that the fun of gymnastics lies in the ability to do cool skills. To that end we will train hard enough to develop the strength, flexibility, and skills necessary to do the gymnastics skills and routines safely and correctly. We will insist on proper form and technique and we will expect the girls to try hard. Should the girls ever want to compete on our USA Gymnastics (select) team or on their middle school or high school teams, the Scarlet and Gray teams will lay a solid foundation for doing so.

Additional fees are required for competitions. The girls are also required to purchase a competition leotard. Complete details are available in the office in both Powell and Westerville.
