Girls Team Tryouts
Monday, March 31, 7:00 You can only audition once. Buckeye Gymnastics fields one of the largest and most successful competitive teams in the Midwest. Buckeye Gymnastics has won more team and individual State titles than any other team in Ohio, has sent more gymnasts to the National Championships over the past 25 years than any other team in the Midwest, and has developed 36 athletes who have earned full college scholarships. But mostly we have fun, train hard, and do our best to land on our feet. Participation within our team program is determined through an audition process. It is not that we want to eliminate anyone who wants to participate, it is that we want the children who do participate to have the skills, strength, attitude, and supportive parents that will allow them to succeed in this difficult sport. To that end we have some specific skills and physical abilities that are required for entry into our team program. In addition, the children must display a willingness to learn and parents must be supportive of those efforts and of the coaches and the gym. Should you be offered a spot on Girls Team five (5) weeks of practice, April 28 until June 1, is offered as a trial period. While you do pay regular tuition during this time, you make no formal commitment to the team program. If after five weeks you find the team program to your liking, then you will formally join the team on June 1st. If not then you don’t. A packet of detailed information will be available in the gym office after March 15. Much more information will be presented should you be offered a spot on team. Girl’s team is offered at the Westerville Gym. Practice begins the week of April 28. Exact schedule to follow. Bucks To Be Tryouts
- Mini-Stars
Team Tryouts Bucks To Be has a new name. Actually, it has three new names as we update and revamp this popular pre-team program for girls ages 4-8. What hasn’t changed is the central mission of the program: to get these young gymnasts ready for our competitive gymnastics team. Mini-Stars: (formerly Bucks To Be 1) is for girls age 4-6 and is strictly noncompetitive. The girls work to develop the strength, flexibility, and basic skills necessary for future success as a competitive gymnast. Register for Mini-Stars for eight weeks at a time as part of our Tumble Bear program. Teacher recommendation is the only requirement and you can take one or two classes a week and make the decision to reenroll every 8 weeks. Level 2 Team: (formerly Buckeye To Be 2) is for girls age 5-8. This group trains twice a week, 2 hours each day, for a total of 4 hours a week. This is both a developmental and competitive level. The girls will compete the Level 2 routines 2-3 times a year at Buckeye Gymnastics. They will also work to develop the strength, flexibility, and basic skills necessary for future success as a competitive gymnast. Level 3 Team: (formerly Buckeye To Be 3) is for girls age 5-8. This group trains twice a week, 2 hours each day, for a total of 4 hours a week. This is both a developmental and competitive level. The girls will compete the Level 3 routines 4-6 times a year in the Central Ohio area. They will also work to develop the strength, flexibility, and basic skills necessary for future success as a competitive gymnast. Parents can be confused about the differences between the Level 2 & 3 Teams and the Scarlet and Gray Teams since both teams involve local competition at Level 3. The main difference is in purpose and orientation. The Level 2 and 3 teams are focused on developing gymnasts for future success as a competitive gymnast. The girls tend to be younger and they are required to audition for placement. While the girls will compete several times that competition is viewed as part of their over all preparation for future competition at a higher level. There will be great emphasis on strength conditioning, flexibility development, and mastery of basic skills on the Level 2 and 3 Teams. It is contemplated that many of these girls will move onto our competitive team in the future. The Scarlet and Gray Teams train and compete for today. There is less time devoted to strength and flexibility development. The girls tend to be older and they are often more advanced in their skills. It is not necessarily contemplated that they will move onto the Girls Team although that is an option that some have chosen. Girls also move from our competitive team to the S&G team. We have terrific coaches and talented gymnasts in both groups and we take great pride in their accomplishments even as we also strive to have fun. | ||||||||||
