Buckeye offers five competition teams for our students and families. While most of our students never compete in gymnastics or cheerleading, many do and we are pleased to offer choices that will allow them to best pursue their favorite gymnastics activity. The four teams are described briefly below. Find additional information under the specific teams.
Girl’s Team(Westerville)
Offers competition from the beginning levels through advanced including elite. Placement is through an audition process. We compete in Ohio, throughout the Midwest, across the country, and around the world. Parents of athletes on the girl’s team are required to join and actively participate in the Buckeye Gymnastics Boosters organization. Buckeye fields one of the most accomplished and decorated programs in Ohio and in the Midwest.
Buckeye Cheer Elite(Powell): BCE is an all-star competition cheer team for girls (and possibly boys) from age 6 through high school and from a beginning to advanced level. Cheerleading incorporates tumbling, stunting, lifts, jumps, and dance into a high energy and loud routine that is performed throughout Ohio, the Midwest, and across the country. All of BCE’s squads have won National Championships in their respective divisions. Placement is by audition which is held in the spring.
Buckeye Flyers Tumbling and Trampoline Team(Powell): TnT competition includes not only trampoline but also power tumbling and double mini-tramp. These three events are contested within the state of Ohio, throughout the region, nationally, and internationally. Trampoline is an Olympic sport and Tumbling is expected to be introduced to Olympic competition by 2012. The Buckeye Flyers is open to both girls and boys from the beginning through advanced levels at our Powell gym and an audition required. Buckeye is the top ranked tumbling team in Ohio (we are 2nd on trampoline and double-mini) and Buckeye Flyers have won numerous national titles.
(Powell and Westerville): The Scarlet & Gray Teams are non-select, girls competition gymnastics teams. All girls who have passed the Rising Star level and can demonstrate mastery of the skills at that level are eligible. S&G Team members register every 4 weeks just as they would for any other class. You commit to one four week session at a time. The S & G teams train 2-6 hours a week. The girls compete within Buckeye Gymnastics and with other local teams in the Central Ohio area.
Girls register for the S & G teams just like you have always done for the classes you take at Buckeye. Registration information will include class listings for Scarlet and Gray practices. S&G is offered both in Powell and in Westerville.
(Powell Gym only): The Buckeye Cheer Stars (BCS) is a non-select, girls competition cheer team. Girls between the ages of 5 and 15 are eligible. The teams are organized by age and ability. Practice starts in October with competition starting in January and continuing through March. You commit to the six month session and pay tuition every 4 weeks. During the other six months we encourage the girls to take tumbling classes to improve in this important and challenging area. The younger BCS team practices 1 1/2 to 2 hours a week. The older girls practice three hours a week. BCS teams compete within Buckeye Gymnastics and with other teams in the Central Ohio area. The girls are required to purchase a uniform that will cost approx. $100 plus shoes.
Girls register for the BCS teams just like you have always done for the classes you take at Buckeye. Registration information in the fall will include information for BCS Teams. Once the teams are formed and practice begins registration for the teams will not be offered since the teams will be organized.
